  • Kenda Sutton-EL is the Founder and Executive Director of Birth In Color. A native of rural Virginia, Kenda focuses on Reproductive Sexual Justice, Birth Justice, Black maternal Health, Structural Racism, and organizes for Incarcerated pregnant people and human rights violations. An Activist that trains people of color to become doulas, Trains healthcare systems and workers in racial bias training.

  • Jillian Gilchrest was elected to represent the 18th District of West Hartford in the Connecticut General Assembly (CGA) in 2018. She serves as House Chair of the Human Services Committee and member of the Appropriations, Public Health, and Judiciary Committees.

    Jillian Chairs MAPOC, the Trafficking in Persons Council, and the Endometriosis Working Group.

    Prior to becoming a state representative, Jillian served as the Director of Health Professional Outreach for the Connecticut Coalition Against Domestic Violence, Executive Director of NARAL Pro-Choice Connecticut, and Director of Policy & Communications for the Connecticut Alliance to End Sexual Violence. She has extensive experience advocating for women’s health and safety, in particular influencing public policy at the CGA.

  • Karla Torres (she/her/ella) serves as Senior Human Rights Counsel at the Center for Reproductive rights where she leads the Center’s U.S. work on assisted reproduction, including advocacy to make access to fertility care equitable. Karla also currently leads the Center’s human rights fact-finding work and supports efforts to integrate international human rights norms and strategies in domestic advocacy to advance the full spectrum of reproductive rights in the United States. Karla joined the Center in 2017 and holds a J.D. from American University, Washington College of Law.
