Request a New Birth in Color Doula.

We know that occasionally a client and doula may not have the connection they want. This can be due to a number of factors, but we want to make sure that our clients are taken care of and that our doulas are supporting clients to the best of their ability.

We allow our clients the opportunity to change their doula one time during their care with us (exceptions made only for urgent or emergent matters).

Also, please remember that, as noted in your acceptance email, you only have one opportunity to reschedule a meeting with your doula if it's not an emergency. It is very important for you to attend meetings with your doula.

FAQ About Doula Changes

    • You will not receive a new doula assignment if you stopped communicating with your doula or missed/rescheduled more than one visit with your first assigned doula.

    • You will not receive a new doula if you were removed from the community-based doula program.

    • You will not receive a new doula if you had a Birth in Color doula and a doula from another collective/cohort/business/independent doula at the same time then requested to return to the Birth in Color community-based doula program.

    • This request form is not to be used to interview/try out multiple doulas before selecting a doula.

    • Doula assignments and acceptance into the program can always be evaluated by the Birth in Color staff and reassignments may be declined if there is a specific cause or reason that indicates the necessity for the removal of a client from the program.

  • Not everyone connects perfectly, and that’s okay!

    As an organization, we value the experiences of our clients and our doulas. For any reassignment request, we speak directly with the doula to get a full picture. Your doula won’t get in trouble if you all aren’t connecting well, or you request a new doula for another reason that does not require staff intervention.

  • Yes, if you have a concern about your doula and the care they are providing, or another issue, we want to know about it. You can fill out this form and request a new doula, or you can fill it out and check the box that you don’t want a new doula, you just wanted to bring something to our attention.

  • Unfortunately, we’re not able to accept anonymous submissions on this form, as we need to know who you are and who your doula is in order to assign you to a new doula.
